Face drawings

Face art is a special makeup technique designed to create fantastic, cartoon, animal, and other looks. It is used in photo shoots, themed events and parties, children’s parties. Correct and safe make-up involves the application of special cosmetic products.

How can you make drawings on your face?

Most of the Internet sources contain information about the versatility of face art, the possibility of using almost any dyes for its application. Any experienced make-up master will refute these claims. There is a very limited list of tools that can be used to paint on the face so as not to provoke skin irritation and allergic reactions. It is especially important to pay attention to the products used if face art is performed by children.

Face paint

The only suitable option, approved by both dermatologists and professional makeup artists, is face painting. Such face paints have the following features:

  • easily washed off with soap and water;
  • hypoallergenic, non-toxic;
  • do not dry the skin;
  • good “fit”;
  • do not crack or flow.

Face painting on the face perfectly withstands bright spotlights and temperature changes, but they are completely harmless even for sensitive baby skin. There are several options for this paint:

Pressed palette. Such face painting is sold on pallets or in individual packages of different sizes. The pigment must be diluted with water to the desired consistency. Drawings on the face are done with brushes and sponges.

Cream paint. The product is available in tubes and is preferred by professionals. The creamy texture is versatile. For dense and rich face art, the paint is applied in its pure form, if it is necessary to “play” with shades and transparency, the product is diluted with water. Colors can be mixed and layered on top of each other.

Liquid face painting. The finished product for work, you only need a brush or sponges.

Airbrush solution. A form of liquid paint that can be poured directly into equipment. The pigment is used when you need to quickly tint large areas of the skin.

There are many companies that produce face painting in different variations, sets and individual colors. In order for the drawings on the face to be not only beautiful and bright, but also safe, it is important to choose a quality product. Professionals recommend these brands:

  • Make Up Atelier;
  • Kryolan;
  • Mehron;
  • Fardel;
  • Make Up Forever;
  • Temptu-Pro;
  • Tag;
  • Diamond FX;
  • Kreul;
  • Jovi;
  • Colorino;
  • Fila;
  • Rayher;
  • Silly Farm;
  • Global FX;
  • Superstar and others.

Pencils for painting on the face

This version of paints is also face painting, just pressed. Pencil-shaped products are intended for beginners in the field of face art and hobbyists who want to try to create an interesting look for a party or to please the little ones at a children’s party. A similar tool is crayons for painting on the face. They are not dry, they have a soft pencil structure. With crayons, you won’t be able to depict intricate patterns with thin lines, but simple face art will work out quite well.

Popular pencil brands:

  • Multi Art;
  • Snazaroo;
  • Colorino;
  • Giotto;
  • Schreiber;
  • Alpino;
  • Cobee;
  • Koh-i-Noor and others.

Face painting markers

Professionals rarely use markers, preferring brushes, but for home use this option than painting a face will work well. Face painting in such sets is also hypoallergenic and can be easily washed off with soapy water. With the help of several markers, you can complement the image for a theme party, photo session, arrange a fun children’s party.

  • Colorino;
  • Jumbo;
  • Diamond FX;
  • Koh-i-Noor;
  • Snazaroo;
  • Ecoline;
  • Mingda and others.

Food colors for facial drawings

If you urgently need a pigment for face art, and there is nowhere to buy specialized products, you will have to do with improvised means. You can paint your face with a homemade food coloring mixture, but it has several drawbacks:

  • does not hold well and flows;
  • may cause allergies;
  • some pigments are difficult to wash off.

Homemade paint recipe

  • baby cream – 1.5 tsp;
  • corn starch – 3 tbsp spoons;
  • warm water – 2 tsp;
  • food coloring – a few drops.

  1. Mix cream, starch and water until creamy.
  2. Add a little food coloring.
  3. Stir the mass, if necessary – add more pigment, sparkles.

Decorative cosmetics for drawings on the face

Such funds are not able to fully replace face painting, but they will help out in the absence of special paints. You can make a simple drawing on your face using eyeliner and lip liner, multi-colored correctors, lipsticks, and foundation. Shadows will also come in handy, especially pearlescent ones and with sparkles. Disadvantages of face art performed by decorative cosmetics:

  • dull, insufficiently saturated colors;
  • low coating density;
  • poor stability;
  • the risk of allergies and irritation.

Can I paint on my face with gouache?

The paint in question has a convenient thickness and viscosity, but it is not intended for face art. Gouache is made on an adhesive basis and contains white in the composition. Facial drawings made with this product may cause severe irritation and allergies. Apart from the health risks, this dye does not have the desired properties for application to the skin. Gouache drawings on the face dry up and crack, crumble. The pigment rolls down in the folds of the skin, flows when the temperature rises.

Some experienced face artists sometimes use gouache in complex compositions. But it is mixed with high-quality paint and applied to already prepared skin, “primed” with face painting. This technique is needed to obtain rare shades and gradient color transitions. The technique is used mainly in contests, where the model does not have to wear face art for a long time.

Can I paint on my face with watercolors?

The presented paint has a good reputation, but its production technology has long changed and has become cheaper. Pigments are no longer made from honey and natural products. They include chemical dyes and heavy metal salts. For this reason, watercolors are a bad idea, especially if you are prone to allergic reactions. Some cheap, low-quality palettes even cause chemical burns and blisters.

Another significant drawback is that watercolor drawings on the face do not stick. The paint dries quickly and cracks. Due to the unevenness of the skin and active facial expressions, it instantly crumbles. On the Internet, you can find recipes for making face art tools based on watercolors, but you should not use them even in extreme cases. It is better to replace face painting with mixtures with food colors or decorative cosmetics.

Can I paint on my face with acrylics?

This pigment attracts novice face art masters with its availability, consistency, comfortable for application, and color saturation. The main problem is that the material is not recommended for use on the skin due to its toxicity, durability and density. Drawings on the face with paints containing acrylics can cause redness, irritation and flaking, and severe allergic reactions. A special feature of this product is a continuous airtight coating. The skin stops “breathing”, which is fraught with clogged pores and inflammation.

Professionals sometimes paint on the face using a small amount of acrylic paints. Reception is carried out similarly to the use of gouache – the skin is pre-“primed” with face painting. Acrylic provides sharper contours and richer colors for a thicker finish. Such techniques are used in photo shoots and face art contests, where makeup is quickly washed off. You cannot remove acrylic paints with soap and water; you will have to apply a special solvent.
